Mutual Compassion on Display in the Nation's
Highest Office

Skeptics and cynics will mock and skip over
what millions of us saw live on TV. They will say it was just for show; But this was real and a sneak peak of what we all
need and long for in one another. It was on display during President Bush's speech to the full congress on September 20th,
2001 just days after 911. President Bush embraced his political foe, Tom Daschle and Daschel embraced back. Sure, it stopped
there, because those men were at the mercy of forces greater than themselves, but it was real. The same thing happened recently
when President Obama invited former Presidents Clinton and Bush 43 to join him in helping the people of Haiti. President Obama
now knows conflict and hatred like he has never known. The same hatred aimed at George W. Bush's conservatism and Bill Clinton's moderatism. The
compassion they showed for each other was real. And it was heartening to witness. When a man reaches to place his hand on
the back of another or even to embrace, it's not necessarily for the cameras as cynics suppose. It may be that they know something
of one another that nobody else can begin to imagine; The pressure of leadership. Yes, they will go back to fighting, but
not without the knowledge of this moment they have shared and we here locally can take a lesson from them, because it was
and still is real. It did something for them personally to be able to stand together. Yeah, the pats on the back are mixed
with vanity, a desire for security and control. Heck! They're human! But the gestures also indicate something else: Need
and compassion. We don't have the forces working against them
that they do and are more able to bring the kind of change their hearts long to see. Corporate prayer keeps us together before
a Heart on the Cross, strengthens and digs Jesus love deeper in our hearts. Let corporate prayer return to homes and the church
and it will come back to Washington. Most people, if they even pray, pray out of pride for or against them. What if we prayed
out of the Heart on the Cross for them? How would that help? If we do this here, they can do more of that there. The power
is with the Church. The time to seek Love Himself together has come.
