The Purpose of Life

Companionship

"Jesus died of a broken heart that cried out
'Why have You forsaken Me?'  God truly loves us."

When you quit praying for that person to be saved for the benefit of yourself or even for his or her benefit, but primarily because you want to see Jesus receive the joy of being able to embrace  that person Whom He knows so well and has suffered for so greatly, then Salvation and Freedom will come. This is where the power for true revival begins: At the foot of the Cross of a broken-hearted Man. He is worthy of His just reward and those all around us are His reward. May the strongholds of pride fall within and around us - may the souls of Charleston be released for the delight of the Humble King.

"I will have compassion on You Oh Lord my strength" Psalm 18:1 (Literal Hebrew)

The purpose of life is companionship. Companionship is found in the context of a hierchy of relationships beginning with God, which are guarded by the law of love and friendship. God made us in His image and from Him we inherited an inner desire to know and be known: The desire for companionship. It is the most powerful and important drive in the human soul. It is a need that can only be fullfilled in Him. "Deep Calleth unto Deep".

Why does a girl give away her virginity before marriage? Why does a man go to the bar instead of sitting home with a six pack? Why do we buy dogs and cats? Why do we aspire for a major career? Ultimately, whether we are successful, derailed or even consumed by our efforts, what truly drives us is this deep need for a friend. In not recognizing its existence and Origination, we are truly lost. The self takes its own toll on the soul and loses its true identity.

But in God there is fellowship: Heart to heart communication between us and Him and between one another. This is more than socializing merely facade to facade. God's purpose and presence can be found when we are seeking Him. We can encounter Him in the company of a dog, a chat with a friend or in the listening to a neighbor. The hug of a father, the forgiveness of a foe and the prayer for a neighbor take on monumental significance in the eyes of God when we consider this ultimate purpose is the reason for it all. He desires that nobody be alone.

The 10 points of the Law all have to do with companionship's protection, not the legalisms of haughty religiousity.

Consider the broken heart of Christ on the Cross. He came to please His Father. He suffered the rejection by His family, nation and closest friends and then came the pain of Divine rejection. He screamed out the question in anguish as His Father turned His back on Him.

Jesus died of a broken heart that cried out "Why have You forsaken Me?"  God truly loves us.

This is a love, so white hot, that no selfish thought, attitude or action can get within an eternity of Him. Yet this love was wrapped in human flesh, walked among us and bowed down to wash our feet; Then died of a broken heart to save us from our prideful selves. God is the greatest, because God is the least. The proud heart will burn in His humility. It will either burn in His humility now or forever in eternity.

Worship is that form of companionship where we love on God in response to His great love for us. This alone should be more than enough to command unity among us in pursuit of Him who is alive and able to lead. The High Calling is to intimately know (worship) Him.

When the High Calling is answered, the Great Commision of bringing others in will be an automatic by-product of being with Him; A natural outflow of our hearts desire.

Come and let us worship Him together.
